Princeton's Chelo Canino pulled off a stunner at the NCAA East Regional in Gainesville, Fla., on Friday, clearing 13-5 3/4 in the pole vault to win the event and advanced to the NCAA Championships in two weeks in Austin, Texas. Canino's mark was more than eight inches better than any Ivy Leaguer had ever cleared outdoor. Canino missed her first attempt of the day before reeling off six straight clearances, including 13-5 3/4, which bettered the all-time Ivy mark of 12-9.

Wow that's a HUGE PR for super cool vault chick Chelo Canino from Princeton - if my database is correct it's a 7 inch improvement and it couldn't have come at a better time. A mighty jump and what impeccable timing. And what consistency - save for an opening height miss whe was clean throughout the rest of the competition including her first PR at 4.01 13'01.75 and her 2nd one at 13'05.75 to win the competition...

Former Bloomingdale High standout Chelo Canino, now competing for Princeton University, captured first place in the women's pole vault at Friday's NCAA East Region Track and Field Championships at Gainesville's Percy Beard Stadium.

Canino cleared a lifetime best of 13 feet, 5.75 inches to edge University of Georgia senior Fanni Juhasz
